Dr. John Abrahams

Dr. John Abrahams

Dr. John Abrahams treats disorders of the brain and spine. He is the author of numerous patents, has authored over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, and given lectures at many national and local meetings.  In addition to being the past President of BSSNY, he is now President of New York Brain & Spine Surgery, he is also Northern Westchester Hospital’s Co-Director of the Spine Section of the Orthopedic and Spine Institute. In 2009, he founded and now runs the Brain & Spine Research Institute.

Dr. Abrahams has a background in biomedical engineering and been quite active as a biomedical entrepreneur, and has founded numerous medical companies including EndoMedix, Capseus, and DTX Medical. Dr. Abrahams’ most recent project is a surgical robotic device for brain surgery.

Dr. Abrahams was past President of Brain & Spine Surgeons of New York from 2015 until 2023. He was recently named one of the “Top 10 Spine, Orthopedic Surgeon Tech Entrepreneurs to Know” by Becker’s Spine Review. To read the article, click here.

Tim Pulverenti, PhD, Director of Research

Tim Pulverenti, PhD has over 10 years of experience in scientific exploration, clinical trials, data management, and reporting. With a strong focus on innovative therapeutics and health outcomes, Tim has successfully designed, managed, and executed clinical trials with multidisciplinary teams. Currently serving as the Director of Research at New York Brain and Spine, he leads the research and data analytics programs for neurosurgery and neuropsychology divisions.

Tim has traveled the world for his training. He holds a B.S. in kinesiology from Creighton University (Omaha, NE), a M.Sc. in biomechanics from University of Jyväskylä (Jyväskylä, Finland), and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Edith Cowan University (Perth, Australia). After his Ph.D., Tim joined the City University of New York as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and Associate Research Scientist working on novel therapies aiming to restore function for individuals with spinal cord injury and stroke. From his research career Tim has published 20+ research articles in scientific journals and has been awarded ~$6M in research funding from federal, state, and private funding organizations. Tim has also done research in the areas of chronic pain and Huntington’s disease. Overall, Tim’s leadership, expertise, and commitment make him an invaluable asset to driving innovation in clinical research and improving patient outcomes.
